Failure of single-parameter scaling of wave functions in Anderson localization

چکیده
We show how to use properties of the vectors which are iterated in the transfer-matrix approach to Anderson localization, in order to generate the statistical distribution of electronic wave-function amplitudes at arbitrary distances from the origin of L3` disordered systems. For d51 our approach is shown to reproduce exact diagonalization results available in the literature. In d52, where strips of width L<64 sites were used, attempted fits of Gaussian ~log-normal! forms to the wave-function amplitude distributions result in effective localization lengths growing with distance, contrary to the prediction from single-parameter scaling theory. We also show that the distributions possess a negative skewness S, which is invariant under the usual histogramcollapse rescaling, and whose absolute value increases with distance. We find 0.15&2S&0.30 for the range of parameters used in our study.

Single parameter scaling in one-dimensional localization revisited
The variance of the Lyapunov exponent is calculated exactly in the one-dimensional Anderson model with random site energies distributed according to the Cauchy distribution. We find a new significant scaling parameter in the system, and derive an exact analytical criterion for single parameter scaling which differs from the commonly used condition of phase randomization. The results obtained ar...
متن کاملSingle-parameter scaling in one-dimensional Anderson localization: Exact analytical solution
The variance of the Lyapunov exponent is calculated exactly in the one-dimensional Anderson model with random site energies distributed according to the Cauchy distribution. We derive an exact analytical criterion for the validity of single-parameter scaling in this model. According to this criterion, states with energies within the conduction band of the underlying nonrandom system satisfy sin...
متن کاملShort-distance wavefunction statistics in one-dimensional Anderson localization
We investigate the short-distance statistics of the local density of states ν in long one-dimensional disordered systems, which display Anderson localization. It is shown that the probability distribution function P (ν) can be recovered from the long-distance wavefunction statistics, if one also uses parameters that are irrelevant from the perspective of two-parameter scaling theory. متن کاملPhase diagram for Anderson disorder: Beyond single-parameter scaling
The Anderson model for independent electrons in a disordered potential is transformed analytically and exactly to a basis of random extended states leading to a variant of augmented space. In addition to the widely accepted phase diagrams in all physical dimensions, a plethora of additional, weaker Anderson transitions are found, characterized by the long-distance behavior of states. Critical d...
متن کاملLength and Localization in One Dimension
The scaling properties of the wave functions in finite samples of the one dimensional Anderson model are analyzed. The states have been characterized using a new form of the information or entropic length, and compared with analytical results obtained by assuming an exponential envelope function. A perfect agreement is obtained already for systems of 10–10 sites over a very wide range of disord...
